Corporate FAQ
Why plan a corporate workday?
Companies who benefit by being part of a supportive community often want to return something to those in that community who are less fortunate. The choice to serve others in the community sets a company apart and creates an atmosphere of compassion that extends into other aspects of corporate life. On the workday, coworkers strengthen their relationships with each other through teambuilding as they work together to better the life of another person.
What will you be doing on a Good Works workday?
Applicants who are living in substandard housing receive home repair services free of charge through the gift of your volunteer labor. Our primary work involves replacing or repairing windows, roof repair, plumbing repairs, and the replacement of floors, walls, and ceilings damaged by water or plumbing leaks. Siding may be installed to make the home more weather tight. All tools and supplies are provided. Everyone is welcome; volunteers who have limited skills will still be able to make a contribution! For weekday workdays, we use one of our paid staff or hire a professional to plan and oversee the work as our Saturday volunteer leaders are not available.
When and where are corporate workdays scheduled?
Workdays are generally held on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday in one of three communities - Coatesville, West Chester or Phoenixville. We work for a full day, meeting at 8:30 a.m. for an orientation before going out to the home and we end about 4 p.m. Orientation is held at one of our three warehouses located in the communities where the home is located. For directions, please visit http://www.goodworksinc.org/workday/directions.html.
Is there a cost to have a corporate workday through Good Works?
There is no general fee established for a workday. However, we do incur some costs for supervisory planning and staffing of this workday depending on the complexity of the work planned and the number of volunteers that are participating. A donation to defray some of those costs is appreciated.
How do I get started?
Contact Cathy Gilbert, Volunteer Coordinator, at 610-383-9247 to select a date that is convenient for both you and Good Works. After approval has been obtained both from your corporate headquarters and Good Works, begin to promote the workday. We will send you an email to forward and some literature to use to introduce your coworkers to Good Works. Please limit the number of participants you sign up to 10-12 per day; if you have many more than that, we would be more than happy to schedule an additional workday. As the date approaches, Cathy will be in touch to finalize details such as suggested dress, lunch plans, location of the workday and the designation of a photographer from within your group.
